About John Hancock Vitality

  • The John Hancock Vitality Program is a wellness program that rewards members for their everyday healthy activities, like walking the dog, going to the doctor and buying healthy food. John Hancock offers two versions of the program – Vitality GO and Vitality PLUS.

  • John Hancock Vitality GO is a FREE wellness program that rewards members for making healthy decisions each day. It’s the basic “be healthy” version of the program and is included on John Hancock life insurance products - at no additional cost. The program includes select rewards from national retailers like Amazon.com, REI® and Fitbit®. Note: John Hancock Vitality GO is not available in NY.

John Hancock Vitality PLUS gives access to exclusive rewards from Apple, Hotels.com, Amazon.com, Fitbit, REI and more – plus all the benefits of Vitality GO. The Vitality PLUS program can be added to your policy for as little as $2/month, or, in some instances, may be included in the price of your policy.1

  • Participation is not required, however the more a member participates in the program the greater their rewards and savings. In fact, many of the things our members already do would be considered a “healthy activity” with John Hancock Vitality - like buying fruits and vegetables at the grocery store. Let your everyday healthy habits reward you, too!

  • Yes! Vitality GO members who are eligible to upgrade may choose to do so anytime during the first 25 months after purchasing their policy for as little as $2 per month.1 A member’s Vitality Points and Vitality Status from their Vitality GO account will be automatically transferred to their new PLUS membership to give them a head start towards greater rewards! To find out if your policy is eligible to upgrade, please call 888-333-2659 and ask to speak with a representative.

How the John Hancock Vitality Program works

  • John Hancock Vitality is designed to help people live longer, healthier lives. The program rewards members with Vitality Points when they complete healthy activities. The more Vitality Points a member has, the higher their Vitality Status.

  • Members who complete healthy activities, such as going to the gym, taking a walk or watching a nutrition webinar, are awarded Vitality Points. The more points they earn, the higher their Vitality Status and the greater their rewards. Members can earn points by recording their healthy activities on a fitness device, through the John Hancock Vitality mobile app or online at JohnHancockVitality.com.

  • Vitality Status is determined by the number of Vitality Points a member accumulates during his/her Program Year. For Vitality PLUS members, a higher status can mean greater premium savings, increased discounts on bookings with Hotels.com and more chances to win retail gift cards in the Vitality Squares game. Status levels include Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. Vitality GO members who upgrade to Vitality PLUS can transfer their Vitality Status to their new program.1

  • Points can be earned from physical activities (running, biking, swimming, etc.), as well as by completing other healthy activities such as getting a flu shot, going to the dentist, buying healthy food, watching educational webinars and getting eight or more consecutive hours of sleep. A complete list of point-earning activities is available in the Points Planner on the member website.

  • Yes! Vitality GO and Vitality PLUS members can earn up to 600 Vitality Points each year for their qualifying healthy food purchases with the HealthyFood benefit. Vitality PLUS members are also able to save up to $600 each year at the grocery store on those same healthy food purchases.

  • Yes, points are awarded every day a member completes healthy activities. For example, members can earn points for completing a preventive health screening, completing an online nutrition course, checking in with a goal, completing a daily workout and more all within the same day. Members can view their Vitality Points on the mobile app or online on the member website, JohnHancockVitality.com.

  • The John Hancock Vitality Program is designed for people of all physical activity levels who aspire to live a long and healthy life.  Whether it’s walking the dog or running a marathon, Vitality Points from physical activity are awarded based on the intensity of the workout – the more a member exercises, the more points they earn. There are also a number of ways to participate in the Vitality program that do not include physical activity, such as watching nutrition webinars from experts at the Tufts Friedman School of Nutrition Science & Policy and buying healthy food.

  • No, fitness devices are not required. There are many ways to get credit for physical activity including checking in when you work out at your favorite gym, completing athletic events or using the Apple Health or Google Fit app on your mobile phone.

It is important to note, however, that fitness devices are a great way to record your physical activity and make earning Vitality Points easy! Vitality GO members are eligible for discounts on devices from Fitbit, Garmin and Polar. Vitality PLUS members are eligible to receive a free Fitbit device within their first Program Year, order a discounted device from Fitbit, Garmin or Polar, or order an Apple Watch for as little as $25 (Note: Apple Watch is not available in New York).
